ROCK Christmas 2010

ROCK Christmas is the biggest single ministry event at Mecca New Life. Annually, over 200 children and teens receive Christmas gifts selected by their parents or guardians through this ministry. In addition, gently used toys, clothing (both new and used) is available that evening, as well as food from the Food Pantry. Parents are able to wrap their gifts that night as well if they choose to.

As with other ministries at Mecca New Life, there is no need to prove financial resources in order to come to ROCK Christmas. We realize that sometimes grandparents are raising their kids, but don't officially have custody - or that a non-custodial parent wants to have something to give their children at Christmas.

We do ask that those who are receiving assistance from other sources at Christmas time, such as Toys for Tots or Shop with a Cop, take fewer items that night. Depending on the number of donations received, everyone is able to take home at least some type of toy or gift, a book or art supply, a game or type of sports equipment (ball, skateboard, etc). There are also a nice variety of "stocking stuffers" available.

Each year, we welcome donations of new toys. In the past, we've been blessed as businesses have collected toys for us and local organizations have donated money. In addition, we've been blessed to receive several grants in the past to help purchase toys. Thousands of dollars are spent each year on this ministry, so any sized donation - large or small - is very welcome!

Donations of gently used toys are collected throughout the year and stored, then clean and sorted in December. Several individuals have generously donated used bikes which we've invested elbow grease and some new parts into - and blessed a lot of kids in the process!

We do limit the toy/gift distribution to that evening - and we ask that an actual family member be present to select the toys. Anything that is left over is then used for our party at The ROCK two days later. Kids always love to pick out toys - not for themselves, but for them to give as gifts to siblings!
